If you’re like most business owners, you want to build a relationship with your list.
After all, your list is made up of people who have opted in to receive information from you. They’re interested in what you have to say, and they’re more likely to buy from you if they feel like they know, like, and trust you.
So how do you build a relationship with your list?
Here are 11 Tips to Help You Build a Better Relationship with Your Email List:
1. Be personal and be your authentic self.
Share your story and your journey. Let your list get to know you as a person, not just a business owner.
2. Be helpful.
Provide valuable and helpful information. Your list will appreciate it, and they’ll be more likely to buy from you in the future. If you are recommending a product to them, share what you like and dislike about the product.
3. Be consistent.
Show up regularly in their inbox with quality content. Consistency builds trust. Send out regular content, whether it’s a weekly newsletter or monthly update. This will keep your list engaged and interested in what you
4. Be responsive.
When people reply to your emails, take the time to respond to them. Show them that you are interested in them as their unique individual and interested in their lives and business.
Make sure you’re answering any questions or comments your subscribers have. This will show that you’re invested in the relationship.
5. Know your audience.
Every niche is different and every group of subscribers is different. Knowing your audience is key to knowing what content they would like to consume and what offers they would like to buy.
This goes back to point 2 and will help you in sharing the right information that your subscribers will find valuable.
If you struggle with this, you can always survey your list. Create a survey with the list of questions that you have and send them to your list with a sweetener such as a coupon or a gift card.
6. Treat them like VIPs.
I like to do this by sending them list-only exclusive offers. Avoid emailing them only when you are asking for money.
7. Ensure that you are only attracting the right people to your list.
One of the greatest mistakes I see people making is attracting the wrong people to their list. Your choice of lead magnet or freebie is crucial in ensuring that only your people, make it to your list.
For example, if you are a mom blogger, a suitable lead magnet could be a motivational prompt journal or a set of self-care affirmation cards.
If you are in the finance or get-out-of-debt niche, a budget planner would be perfect for your audience.

8. Be clear and specific on what to expect from you.
What type of topic do you write about? How often do you send your newsletters? Make these clear to your subscribers early on in the relationship.
Give them the chance to unsubscribe if they do not agree with these or if they are not interested in what you write about.
9. Send them discounts and freebies.
These can be from you or from people you collaborate with. Everyone likes a free resource, especially if it is relevant to them.
10. Personalize your emails.
Ideally, you would be collecting at least a first name when you collect their email address. Address your emails to them using their first names.
This goes a long way in building that 1 to 1 relationship we want.
11. Remind them about how they got on your list.
This sounds silly but given the number of promotional emails and free stuff that we sign up for online, many people do not remember how they got on every single email list.
A simple reminder in smaller print at the end of your email helps to remind your subscriber, how they got on your list and show them where to unsubscribe if they no longer want to receive emails from you.
This also helps to reduce spam complaints although you can never get rid of those completely.
I hope that you have found these tips useful for improving the relationship you have with your list.
I’d love to know if you have any other tips that you would add to this list.
